Glossary of Terms

Key terms and definitions to help you understand Predicta Markets.

A

Asset

A specific outcome option in a market (e.g., “YES” or “NO”). In multi-outcome markets, each condition is an asset.

Available Balance

Funds in your account that are ready for trading immediately. Does not include funds reserved in suspense.

B

Binary Market

A market with only two possible outcomes: YES or NO. The simplest type of prediction market.

Buy Order

An order to purchase shares in a prediction. You buy shares when you think an outcome will happen.

C

Cancelled

Order status indicating the order was cancelled. Funds are returned to your balance.

Closed

Market status indicating trading has stopped. No new orders are accepted, but existing orders may still fill.

Completed

Market status indicating the outcome has been determined. Awaiting payout processing.

F

Fill

When an order is matched and executed. An order can be partially filled or fully filled.

Filled

Order status indicating the order was completely executed. All shares were matched.

H

Holdings

Shares you currently own in a market. Your portfolio shows all your holdings across markets.

L

Limit Order

An order with a specific price limit. Only fills if someone matches your price. May not fill immediately.

Locked

Market status indicating the market is closed and locked for resolution. No trading allowed.

M

Market Order

An order that fills immediately at the current market price. Guaranteed to execute (if liquidity exists).

Market Price

The current price at which shares are trading. YES price + NO price always equals 100.

Multi-Outcome Binary Market

A market with multiple conditions, each with its own YES/NO options. More complex than binary markets.

O

Open

Order status indicating the order is placed and waiting to be matched. Can be cancelled.

Order Book

The list of all pending buy and sell orders. Shows what prices people are willing to trade at.

P

Partial

Order status indicating the order was partially filled. Some shares matched, remaining shares still waiting.

Pending Approval

Market status indicating the market is waiting for admin approval. Not yet open for trading.

Portfolio

Your collection of all market positions. Shows all markets where you have holdings.

S

Sell Order

An order to sell shares you already own. You sell shares to lock in profit or exit a position.

Series Market

A market that automatically regenerates on a schedule. Creates new instances regularly (hourly, daily, etc.).

Settled

Market status indicating all payouts have been processed. Market is fully resolved.

Share

One unit of a prediction. Costs price/100 to buy, pays 1.00ifcorrect.Forexample,ifpriceis75,onesharecosts1.00 if correct. For example, if price is 75, one share costs 0.75.

Suspense Balance

Funds temporarily reserved for pending orders. These funds cannot be used for new trades or withdrawals until orders fill or are cancelled.

T

Trade

A completed transaction between a buyer and seller. When an order matches, a trade is executed.

V

Volume

Total trading activity in a market. Higher volume usually means more liquidity and more accurate prices.

Y

YES/NO

The two sides of a binary market prediction. YES means the event will happen, NO means it won’t happen. YES price + NO price always equals 100.

Price Terms

Current Price

What one share is worth right now. Updates in real-time as people trade.

Entry Price

The price you paid when you bought shares. Your average entry price is calculated across all purchases.

Market Price

The current trading price. What you’ll pay/receive if you use a market order.

Order Terms

Order Matching

The process of finding compatible orders to execute trades. The matching engine pairs buyers and sellers.

Order Status

The current state of an order: OPEN, PARTIAL, FILLED, or CANCELLED.

Order Type

Whether an order is a BUY (purchasing shares) or SELL (selling shares).

Market Terms

Market State

The current status of a market: PENDING_APPROVAL, OPEN, CLOSED, LOCKED, COMPLETED, SETTLED, or CANCELLED.

Market Type

The type of market: Binary, Multi-Outcome Binary, or Series.

Resolution

The process of determining the outcome of a market and distributing payouts.

Trading Terms

Position

Your holdings in a specific market. Can include YES shares, NO shares, or both.

Profit/Loss

The gain or loss on a position. Calculated as current value minus what you paid.

Payout

The amount you receive when a market resolves and you hold winning shares. Winning shares pay $1.00 each.
