Glossary of Terms

Key terms and definitions to help you understand Predicta Markets.

A

Asset

A specific outcome option in a market (e.g., “YES” or “NO”). In multi-outcome markets, each condition is its own asset.

Available Balance

Funds in your account that are ready for trading immediately. Does not include funds held in suspense.

B

Binary Market

A market with only two possible outcomes: YES or NO. The simplest type of prediction market.

Buy Order

An order to purchase shares in a prediction. You buy shares when you believe an outcome will happen.

C

Cancelled

Order status indicating the order was cancelled. Funds are returned to your available balance.

Closed

Market status indicating trading has stopped. No new orders are accepted.

Completed

Market status indicating the outcome has been determined. Awaiting payout processing.

D

Display Currency

The currency used to show your balance on screen (e.g. USD, KES, TZS). Predicta uses PT internally; your display currency is converted from PT based on current exchange rates. See also: Dual Currency Display.

Dual Currency Display

The balance display format used throughout the app. Your primary value is shown in your display currency, with a secondary PT value below it. Hovering shows the USD equivalent (the real-world base value) and the current rate as 1 USD ≈ X {display currency}.

F

Fill

When an order is matched and executed. An order can be partially filled or fully filled.

Filled

Order status indicating the order was completely executed. All shares were matched.

H

Holdings

Shares you currently own in a market. Your portfolio shows all holdings across all markets.

L

Limit Order

An order with a specific price limit. Only fills if someone matches your price. May not fill immediately.

Locked

Market status indicating the market is closed and locked for resolution. No trading is allowed.

M

Market Order

An order that fills immediately at the current market price. Guaranteed to execute if liquidity exists.

Market Price

The current price at which shares are trading. In binary markets, YES price + NO price always equals 100.

Multi-Outcome Binary Market

A market with multiple conditions, each with its own YES/NO options. More complex than a standard binary market.

O

Open

Order status: the order is placed and waiting to be matched. Can still be cancelled. Also a market status: the market is active and accepting trades.

Order Book

The list of all pending buy and sell orders. Shows what prices people are willing to trade at.

P

Partial

Order status indicating the order was partially filled. Some shares matched; the rest are still waiting.

Pending Approval

Market status indicating the market is waiting for admin review before opening for trading.

Portfolio

Your collection of all market positions. Shows all markets where you currently have holdings.

PT (Predicta Tokens)

The internal currency used by Predicta. All balances and trades are denominated in PT. Your display currency is converted from PT using live exchange rates.

S

A market that automatically regenerates on a schedule (hourly, daily, weekly, etc.). Each regeneration creates a new instance with the same parameters.

Settled

Market status indicating all payouts have been processed. The market is fully resolved.

Share

One unit of a prediction. Costs price ÷ 100 to buy (e.g. price 75 = 75¢ per share) and pays out $1.00 if the outcome is correct.

Suspense Balance

Funds temporarily reserved for your open orders. These funds cannot be used for new trades or withdrawals until orders fill or are cancelled.

T
